Crazy Misadventures of J-Man!

We had a rough few days this past week.
Jackson had a run of the rotavirus that really took a lot out of him. Literally. It was coming out both ends and we couldn't keep anything in him. After a visit to the doctor and a loss of 10% of his body weight, we headed to the hospital in the Pen for a rehydrating IV. We were admitted overnight and kept in isolation until the bug had run most of it's course. I must say that Jackson was such a great trouper and so resilient. He took to being in the hospital with a tube stuck in his arm so much better than Mommy did. By mid morning we got the okay to head back home and we were on the road to recovery. So glad that we have such great healthcare in our country. We are very grateful for the care we received for a simple virus that kills so man
y in the world. We are very blessed to have our little guy back to his usual healthy, happy, joke cracking, dancing around the kitchen self.

I'm So Exhausted...

Our little JMan has been sick all weekend. It started with the puking late Friday night then it continued out the other end for the remainder of the early morning. Not to mention, poor Daddy had a fire call at 2am. Very tired in this house Saturday & Sunday continued with much of the same.

He wasn't able to keep much in him over the past couple of days. Lots of sleeping and snuggling. As much as my little guy is suffering, I must admit that the extra cuddles and hugs are the silver lining for Mommy.

Jackson & Mama Karen snuggling during the Canucks playoff game.

At one point after emptying himself yet again, Jackson said to me as he is draped across the lid of the toilet, limbs hanging limply over the sides...Mommy, I'm so Exhausted. Good to know he still has his sense of humour even when he's sick.

Today was a day of getting back some energy and trying to get some food to stay down. And I believe we are on our way to recovery. Lots of rest and naps and a little fresh air in the backyard to break up the monotony of the day.

You are what you eat...

Had to take advantage of the sunny day we had while we get them. The weather has been so unpredictable with showers and cold winds and frosty mornings. Not a great way to start our May.

So off to the garden centre to buy our vegetables and herbs for our shared garden.

Nana and Papa have thoughtfully shared their garden space with us to grow our own veggies. This year we have decided on red & green peppers, zuc
chini, chi
nese cabbage, green cabbage, french green beans, carrots, cilantro & thai basil. All veggies and greens that we use in our everyday cooking.

We are really trying to 'keep it local' so that we know
what's going into our meals and our bodies. And teaching Jackson where our food comes from and how it gets to our plates.
In doing so, we have really been enjoying our farm grown/fed piggies from
the Schafer f
arm right here in Smalliver. It has been amazing knowing that our meat is so fresh and what went
into it. We have plans for locally produced beef in the next few weeks as well. Just have to find a supplier of farm fresh eggs that don't cost too much. Or start building that chicken coop of our own.
